On May 21st, the European Court of Auditors (ECA) published its Special Report on developing supplementary pensions in the EU, a critical topic given the demographic and fiscal pressures facing Europe today. As supplementary pension systems gain importance in ensuring adequate retirement income, the actuarial profession plays a central role in shaping robust and sustainable solutions. The report offers deep insights into the complexities of retirement provision and the slow development of pension funds across the EU, particularly in the current context of financial constraints and ageing populations.
We are proud to announce that PRS contributed directly to this effort. The report is based on the ECA’s audit of EIOPA’s (European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority) work, particularly its stress testing frameworks for the still-developing European pension landscape. PRS was consulted to assess the relevance and robustness of EIOPA’s proposed stress test methodologies and is explicitly referenced in the report (paragraph 28, page 19) as “recognized experts in the field.”
Our technical analysis on stress test parameter choices was also shared and discussed with both EIOPA and the ECB/ESRB (European Central Bank and European Systemic Risk Board), contributing to a broader dialogue on improving risk frameworks for pension funds.
This recognition reflects our continued commitment to applying advanced actuarial and risk management expertise to support public institutions and private stakeholders in designing more resilient pension systems.
