Stéphane Gartenmann joined Prime Re Solutions in January 2019. The 37-year-old holds a Bachelor in Business and Economics as well as a Master’s degree in Actuarial Science from the University of Lausanne. He has nine years of professional experience as an actuary and internal auditor with the Swiss insurers Suva and Helsana. In this interview he shares what he thinks makes PRS successful and gives an insight into his childhood dream profession as well as his private life.
Please describe your job and role within PRS.
I have been working for PRS as a consulting actuary since January 2019. The work is very diverse and exciting. I am involved in pricing, reserving and statements of actuarial opinion assignments.
What do you think makes PRS a successful organization?
The team's knowledge and the close relationship they maintain with the customers. Each member of the team is unique and brings added value.
What do you appreciate most about having direct client contact?
The contact with the customers is a privilege and brings me a lot of satisfaction. This helps to better understand their needs and also to establish a relationship of trust.
In what field have you recently furthered your knowledge or added to your skill set?
I am currently working on my certification as a fully qualified actuary.
Is there a career you dreamed of in your childhood?
Like most boys, I wanted to become a policeman, but decided later on to choose a more exciting profession… Actuary.
What would you do differently if given the chance to start over?
Looking back, I would not change anything. Every decision I have made has brought a new understanding with it and I am looking forward to all the future experiences life has to offer.
What do you like doing most in your leisure time?
On my days off I like to spend as much time as possible with my family. We enjoy skiing in the winter and in the summer we like to go swimming in the Lake Zug. Every Tuesday night, I go bouldering with my colleagues.
